Leicester Disc Golf Tournament

It’s probably less-than-appropriate that my first post here be about a suburb of Worcester, but I couldn’t resist.

I’ve often driven by the Maple Hill Disc Golf course in Leicester, but I never really understood what disc golf was all about.  Luckily, there was a great report on WBUR’s Only a Game this morning about the Vibram Open, a professional (!) disc golf tournament with a $50,000 (!) purse.  In Leicester (!).

There are people who make money throwing discs (I would normally be inclined to call them frisbees, but after listening to the story, I’ve got a newfound snobbery about classifying flying discs) and those people were in Leicester a month ago.

There was a brief announcement of the Vibram Open in the T&G (link login instructions here); you can also read about the 2004, 2006 and 2007 tournaments on Marshall Street in Leicester.

Incidentally, there’s a disc golf course on Newton Hill; details and reviews here, brief history here.
