Bump Detection Crews

Via the Boston Globe, the City of Boston has bought a piece of equipment that is rumored to better (=more permanently) repair potholes.

The City is also rolling out a smartphone app (currently just for Android) that uses the phone’s sensors to detect and report bumps in the road.  The app was developed in part by a professor at WPI.

I’d mentioned this on Twitter & Google Buzz, and Kate Toomey had noticed it as well and will look into the possibility of renting the truck/equipment to see how well it would work in Worcester.  (I’d also be interested to see how much Worcester could piggyback on other municipalities’ efforts at developing these types of apps.)

(And I’d like to note that you can use SeeClickFix in Worcester for reporting these types of issues.)
